Abstract

Breastfeeding is a natural process that occurs after childbirth, in which mothers provide the best nutritional intake for their infants through breast milk (ASI). Efforts to overcome insufficient breast milk production can be carried out through complementary and non-pharmacological approaches, such as oxytocin massage and the consumption of Moringa leaves. Oxytocin massage is a non-pharmacological method designed to stimulate the production of the hormone oxytocin in breastfeeding and postpartum mothers. This hormone plays an important role in the "let-down reflex," which triggers the contraction of smooth muscles surrounding the mammary glands, thereby facilitating the flow of breast milk. Although the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Tangerang City is relatively high, postpartum mothers at PMB M still experience difficulties in breast milk production and secretion. This condition may hinder the success of exclusive breastfeeding and negatively affect both maternal and infant health. Oxytocin massage and Moringa leaf consumption are safe, easy-to-implement non-pharmacological methods; however, their application in midwifery practice has not been optimized. Based on the results of a study conducted at PMB M Batu Ceper, Tangerang City, in 2025, both oxytocin massage and Moringa leaf supplementation were proven effective in increasing breast milk production among postpartum mothers. Oxytocin massage improves milk flow through the stimulation of oxytocin secretion, while Moringa leaves enhance breast milk production through their nutritional content and galactagogue compounds that stimulate prolactin secretion. Although both interventions had a positive effect on breast milk production, Moringa leaf supplementation demonstrated a more optimal improvement compared to oxytocin massage.
