Abstract

Background: Food security is a strategic issue in sustainable development, directly related to meeting the basic needs of the community. The community of Maria Village, Bima Regency, possesses local wisdom in the form of Uma Lengge, which functions as a traditional food barn for long-term storage of agricultural produce. This system not only maintains food availability but also maintains cultural values and social solidarity. Purpose: To analyze functional food security based on the local wisdom of Uma Lengge in supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs). Method: Using a qualitative approach with sociocultural phenomenology, the study was conducted in Maria Village, Wawo District, Bima Regency through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation with traditional leaders, Uma Lengge users, and the village government. Results: The study shows that Uma Lengge functions as a traditional food storage system that maintains food availability, strengthens social solidarity, maintains local cultural values, and supports the achievement of the SDGs, particularly the goals of zero poverty, zero hunger, and a healthy and prosperous life. Conclusion: Uma Lengge is a form of food security based on local wisdom that remains relevant in supporting sustainable development and can be used as a model for strengthening local food systems. Suggestion: Future research should quantitatively measure the impact of Uma Lengge on household food security status and community nutrition indicators. Furthermore, further studies are needed to integrate traditional food systems with SDG-based regional development programs.   Keywords: Food Security; Local Wisdom; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Uma Lengge.

Abstract

Background: Concentration in learning is a crucial factor in the academic success of elementary school students. Concentration is influenced by various factors, including breakfast habits and nutritional status. Breakfast provides the brain with the energy it needs for cognitive function, while good nutritional status supports optimal brain growth and development. However, some students still have poor breakfast habits and nutritional problems that can affect their ability to concentrate. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between breakfast habits and nutritional status and concentration in students. Method: This quantitative, observational, and analytical study used a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 84 students at Doro O'o Public Elementary School, Langgudu District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, selected using a probability sampling technique using simple random sampling. Data on breakfast habits and concentration in learning were collected using a questionnaire, while nutritional status was measured using Body Mass Index for Age (BMI/Age). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Most respondents had good breakfast habits (53.6%), good nutritional status (69.0%), and low levels of learning concentration (46.4%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between breakfast habits and learning concentration (p = 0.000). Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between nutritional status and learning concentration (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Breakfast habits and nutritional status are significantly related to learning concentration in elementary school students. Establishing healthy breakfast habits and maintaining optimal nutritional status are important to support cognitive function and improve students' learning concentration. Suggestion: Further research is recommended to develop studies using research designs that can explain causal relationships, such as cohort or experimental, so that the influence of breakfast and nutritional status on learning concentration can be understood more deeply.   Keywords: Breakfast; Learning Concentration; Nutritional Status.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Excessive nutritional status and unhealthy diet are modifiable risk factors that need to be studied to support hypertension prevention efforts. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between nutritional status and dietary patterns and the incidence of hypertension in the adult population. Method: A quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach was used, with a sample of 92 respondents selected using simple random sampling. The study was conducted in the working area of the Belo Community Health Center, Bima Regency, during May and June 2026. Nutritional status data were obtained through body mass index (BMI), dietary patterns were measured using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), and blood pressure was measured using a sphygmomanometer. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses using the chi-square test with a 95% significance level (α=0.05). Results: The majority of respondents were overweight (37.0%), had poor diet (76.1%), and had hypertension (59.8%). The analysis showed a significant association between nutritional status and the incidence of hypertension (p<0.001). Respondents with overweight nutritional status had the highest proportion of hypertension (85.3%), followed by obesity (80.0%). Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between dietary habits and the incidence of hypertension (p=0.002), with respondents with poor dietary habits more likely to experience hypertension (68.6%) than respondents with good dietary habits (31.8%). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of hypertension, as well as a significant relationship between dietary habits and the incidence of hypertension, with p values <0.001 and 0.002, respectively (α<0.05). Suggestion: It is recommended to use a larger sample size, a wider area, and the addition of other unexplored variables to obtain a more comprehensive picture of the factors associated with the incidence of hypertension.   Keywords: Adults; Dietary Patterns; Hypertension; Nutritional Status.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a major public health issue, with prevalence rates remaining above the WHO critical threshold. At the family level, a mother's formal education and accurate understanding of the first 1000 days of life period are key pillars determining a child's nutritional status and growth. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between maternal education levels and knowledge regarding the first 1000 days of life period and the incidence of stunting in children aged 0-59 months. Method: This observational analytic study, utilizing a case-control design, was conducted in the working area of the Rasanae Timur Community Health Center, Bima City, between February and March 2026. The study sample consisted of 89 mothers with children aged 0–59 months. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire regarding education and knowledge concerning the "First 1,000 Days of Life" period, while stunting status was determined through direct anthropometric measurements analyzed using WHO Anthro software. Data were statistically analyzed using the Chi-Square (χ²) test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Bivariate analysis showed a highly significant relationship between maternal education levels and stunting incidence (p< 0.001); 40.6% of mothers with low education levels had stunted children, compared to 7.0% of mothers with high education levels. Additionally, a significant relationship was found between maternal knowledge regarding the first 1000 days of life period and stunting (p < 0.001), with the highest incidence of stunting observed in the group of mothers with poor knowledge (66.7%), compared to those with adequate (7.1%) or good (14.3%) knowledge. Conclusion: Maternal education levels and knowledge regarding the first 1000 days of life period are significantly associated with the incidence of stunting in children. Strengthening cognitive literacy focused on specific phases within the first 1000 days of life cycle is crucial for inclusion in behavior change intervention programs aimed at preventing stunting.   Keywords: 1000 First Days of Life; Maternal Education; Maternal Knowledge; Stunting.
