Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the storytelling method assisted by cartoon media in Arabic language learning for sixth-grade students at MI Fatimah Sriwijaya Palembang. The background of this research is based on the low interest, motivation, and speaking ability of students in Arabic learning, which is still dominated by conventional teaching methods such as lectures and memorization, causing students to be passive and less able to understand vocabulary and language context properly. Therefore, an innovative and more interactive learning approach is needed to create a more meaningful learning process. This study uses a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data were obtained from pre-test and post-test results, while qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of 25 sixth-grade students. The results of the study show that there is an improvement in students’ Arabic speaking ability after the implementation of the method, where the average pre-test score of 62.16 increased to 85.41 in the post-test. This improvement is also supported by statistical test results showing a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and an N-Gain score in the medium category. In addition, qualitative findings indicate that students became more active, motivated, and confident in speaking Arabic during the learning process. The use of cartoon media also helped students understand vocabulary more easily through interesting visual contexts, making the learning process more enjoyable. Thus, it can be concluded that the storytelling method assisted by cartoon media is effective in improving students’ Arabic language skills, especially speaking skills, as well as increasing their motivation and learning participation.
