Abstract

Handball is a highly dynamic team sport played by two teams of seven players each (six field players and one goalkeeper). The goal of the game is to score as many goals as possible using your hands while preventing the opposing team from doing the same. This study aimed to determine the level of anxiety in handball athletes. The method used was descriptive quantitative with 24 athletes (12 males and 12 females) selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument met the validity and reliability tests with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.817. The results showed that the majority of athletes were in the high anxiety category (50.0%), followed by moderate (41.7%), and very high (8.3%). Male athletes were predominantly in the high category (58.3%), while female athletes had a more even distribution between the moderate and high categories (41.7% each), and the very high category (16.7%). In general, the athletes' cognitive and somatic anxiety were at moderate to high levels. It can be concluded that handball athletes in Sumenep Regency tend to experience quite high levels of anxiety when facing matches.

Abstract

Handball is a team sport that requires mastery of technical skills, physical condition, and coordinative abilities. Among various attacking techniques in handball, the jump shot is one of the shooting variations frequently used to optimize goal-scoring opportunities in dynamic match situations. However, low jump shot accuracy is still considered a common problem among student athletes, particularly male extracurricular handball players at SMA Negeri 16 Surabaya. This study aimed to determine the correlation between eye-hand coordination and jump shot accuracy among male extracurricular handball students at SMA Negeri 16 Surabaya. This research used a quantitative approach with a correlational (ex post facto) design. The subjects consisted of 14 male students selected through total sampling technique. The instruments used were the Alternate Hand Wall Toss Test to measure eye-hand coordination and a modified Special Olympics jump shot accuracy test to assess shooting accuracy. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test with SPSS version 25. The results showed a significance value of 0.049 ($p < 0.05$) and a correlation coefficient of 0.534, indicating a moderate positive correlation. The coefficient of determination of 28.6% indicated that eye-hand coordination contributed to jump shot accuracy. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant positive correlation between eye-hand coordination and jump shot accuracy among male extracurricular handball students at SMA Negeri 16 Surabaya.
