Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement in speaking skills through the role-play model in Year 4 at SDN 07 Belakang Balok, Bukittinggi. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) project using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The research subjects were 20 pupils. The results of the study indicate an improvement in each cycle, namely: Firstly, lesson planning in Cycle I achieved an average of 86% (B), increasing in Cycle II to 96% (SB). Secondly, the results of lesson implementation regarding the teacher’s performance in Cycle I achieved an average of 86.53% (B), increasing in Cycle II to 96.15% (SB). Thirdly, the results of the implementation of learning in terms of the pupils in Cycle I achieved an average of 84.58% (B), increasing in Cycle II to 96.15% (SB). Fourthly, the results for pupils’ speaking skills in Cycle I averaged 77.49% (C), increasing in Cycle II to 86.24% (B). Finally, the results for pupils’ knowledge assessment in Cycle I averaged 84.65% (C), increasing in Cycle II to 91.09% (B). Thus, it can be concluded that the Role-Playing model can improve pupils’ speaking skills in Indonesian language learning in Year 4 at SDN 07 Belakang Balok, Bukittinggi.
