Abstract

This research was motivated by the low discussion skills of eleventh-grade students at MAN 1 Lebak in Indonesian language learning, especially in expressing opinions, providing responses, defending arguments, and the lack of students’ activeness in discussion activities on review text materials. This study aimed to determine students’ discussion skills through the implementation of the Take and Give Learning method, determine students’ discussion skills through the implementation of the Group Investigation method, and identify the differences in students’ discussion skills between the use of the Take and Give Learning method and the Group Investigation method in Indonesian language learning on review text materials at MAN 1 Lebak. This study employed a quantitative approach with an experimental method and a pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of two experimental classes, namely the first experimental class using the Take and Give Learning method and the second experimental class using the Group Investigation method. Data collection techniques were conducted through tests, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The results showed that the Take and Give Learning method and the Group Investigation method were able to improve students’ discussion skills. In addition, there were differences in discussion skills between students who used the Take and Give Learning method and those who used the Group Investigation method in Indonesian language learning on review text materials at MAN 1 Lebak. Therefore, both methods can be used as effective learning alternatives to improve students’ discussion skills.
