Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Project Based Learning (PJBL) model on improving student learning outcomes in hand care (manicure) material in class X of SMK Negeri 8 Medan. Vocational education, especially in the field of cosmetology, requires students not only to understand theory but also to master practical skills. Conventional teacher-centered learning often makes students passive and less actively involved. This study used survey methods and literature review to examine the application of the PJBL model in hand care learning. Data were collected through observation, interviews with hand care subject teachers, and literature studies from various previous research journals. The results showed that the application of the PJBL model was able to increase student motivation by up to 80%, improve cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning outcomes, and develop teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills. The PJBL model with a learning-by-doing approach makes students understand hand care procedures more practically. Success factors for implementing PJBL include student interest, availability of tools and materials, and adequate facilities and infrastructure. This study recommends the application of the PJBL model as an innovative learning model in hand care education in vocational schools.
