Abstract

Comic-based teaching materials have an important role in learning activities. The existence of this teaching material is expected to be used by teachers and students at SD Inpres Lasiana to increase students' knowledge and learning outcomes in the subject of science and natural sciences. The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of comic teaching materials to improve student learning outcomes in the subject of science and natural sciences in class IIIC SD Inpres Lasiana that have been made. The type of research used in this study is development research using the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) and the number of samples in class IIIC SD Inpres Lasiana students totaling 21 people, with instruments in the form of expert validation questionnaires, teacher and student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. Based on the study, it shows that comic teaching materials received very good assessments from material experts (99%), media experts (97%), language experts (95%), teacher responses (96.25%), and student responses (90.40%). Student learning outcomes also improved significantly, with an average pretest score of 41% rising to 91% in the posttest (very good) category. A gain test score of 0.85 (>0.7) indicated an increase in the (high) category. This study concluded that comic-based teaching materials are effective and can be an innovative alternative in science learning in elementary schools, particularly in the topic of living in nature.

Abstract

Early reading ability constitutes a fundamental literacy skill that influences students' subsequent academic development. However, many first-grade elementary school students continue to experience difficulties in letter recognition, syllable decoding, word identification, and simple sentence reading. This study aimed to examine the effect of bulletin board media on the early reading ability of first-grade students at SDK St. Yoseph 2 Kupang City. The research employed a pre-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study involved 25 first-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using an early reading achievement test administered before and after the intervention. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality testing, paired sample t-test, and normalized gain (N-Gain) analysis. The descriptive results indicated an increase in students’ reading performance after the implementation of bulletin board media. The paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. Furthermore, the N-Gain score reached 72.95%, which falls within the high effectiveness category. These findings demonstrate that bulletin board media contributes positively to the improvement of students’ early reading ability by facilitating letter recognition, syllable formation, word reading, and simple sentence comprehension. The study suggests that bulletin board media can serve as an effective, practical, and low-cost instructional medium for strengthening early literacy learning in elementary schools

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kecerdasan emosional peserta didik yang berdampak pada kurang optimalnya pembentukan karakter di kelas V UPTD SD Inpres Kuanino 2 Kota Kupang. Permasalahan yang ditemukan antara lain rendahnya disiplin, tanggung jawab, kerja sama, serta kemampuan peserta didik dalam mengelola emosi dan berinteraksi secara positif dengan lingkungan sekitar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kecerdasan emosional terhadap karakter peserta didik kelas V UPTD SD Inpres Kuanino 2 Kota Kupang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan survei. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 26 peserta didik kelas V dan seluruhnya dijadikan sampel menggunakan teknik sampling jenuh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui angket kecerdasan emosional dan karakter peserta didik. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, uji linearitas, dan uji independen sample t-test dengan bantuan program SPSS versi 23.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan antara kecerdasan emosional terhadap karakter peserta didik kelas V UPTD SD Inpres Kuanino 2 Kota Kupang. Peserta didik yang memiliki kecerdasan emosional tinggi cenderung menunjukkan karakter yang lebih baik, seperti disiplin, tanggung jawab, jujur, kerja sama, dan sopan santun dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kecerdasan emosional berperan penting dalam pembentukan karakter peserta didik dan perlu dikembangkan secara optimal melalui lingkungan keluarga, sekolah, dan masyarakat.
