Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical reasoning ability of sixth-grade elementary school students in solving story problems based on high, medium, and low ability levels. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the subjects were 6 students of SD Negeri 007 Bangkinang (2 students per category), selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via a story problem test and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results show that high-ability students fulfilled all four mathematical reasoning indicators; medium-ability students fulfilled two to three indicators; while low-ability students fulfilled only one or no indicator at all.
