Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of inner conflict in the film Tuhan Izinkan Aku Berdosa directed by Hanung Bramantyo (2024) using literary psychology and social perspectives. The research employs a qualitative content analysis approach by examining film dialogues and key visual scenes. Theoretically, this study integrates Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory regarding id, ego, and superego conflict; Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory; and Stuart Hall's representation theory. The findings indicate that the main character, Kiran, experiences three major forms of inner conflict: (1) internal conflict between idealism and reality driven by superego-id tension; (2) interpersonal conflict with family and religious figures stemming from frustrated belongingness needs; and (3) social conflict related to patriarchal norms and religious institutional disillusionment. These conflicts emerge from an identity crisis, social pressure, and failed support systems. The film's representation of inner conflict fosters audience empathy, critical reflection, and social discourse on mental health, gender equality, and religious freedom. This study concludes that film functions as an effective medium for conveying complex psychological and social issues. Keywords: inner conflict, literary psychology, film representation, social study, psychoanalysis
