<![CDATA[This study aims to improve students' poetry reading skills through the application of the Direct Instruction learning model in Indonesian language learning in grade IV of UPTD SD Negeri 6 Peusangan. This study was motivated by the low poetry reading skills of students, especially in the aspects of pronunciation, intonation, pauses, stress, and expression when reading poetry. This study used a qualitative approach with the type of Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data in this study were obtained through test results, observations of teacher and student activities, and student response questionnaires. The data sources were 16 grade IV students. Data collection methods included tests, observations, questionnaires, and documentation, while data analysis techniques used descriptive percentage analysis of poetry reading skills, learning activities, and student responses. The results showed that the application of the Direct Instruction learning model could improve students' poetry reading skills. In cycle I, the percentage of student learning completion reached 43.75% and increased to 87.5% in cycle II. Teacher activity increased from 82.2% to 93.3%, while student activity increased from 72% to 92%. Student responses to the implementation of the Direct Instruction learning model showed positive results, namely 67% of students answered SS (Strongly Agree), 32% answered S (Agree), 1% answered TS (Disagree), and 0% answered STS (Strongly Disagree). Thus, the Direct Instruction learning model is effective for improving students' poetry reading skills in Indonesian language learning.]]>
