Abstract

This study examined the effect of semi-smash drill training on the semi-smash accuracy of male volleyball athletes at FKAN Kuranji, Padang City. A quantitative pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Ten male spikers aged 17-19 years were selected purposively from 55 active club athletes. The program consisted of 18 meetings: one pretest, 16 progressive drill sessions, and one posttest. Semi-smash accuracy was measured using a six-attempt volleyball spike accuracy test. Data were analyzed descriptively, followed by a Shapiro-Wilk test on the difference scores and a paired-samples t-test. The mean score increased from 6.20 (SD = 1.87) to 10.10 (SD = 1.91), representing a mean gain of 3.90 points or 62.90%. The improvement was statistically significant, t(9) = 5.29, p < .001, 95% CI [2.23, 5.57], with a large within-subject effect size (Cohen's dz = 1.67). The findings indicate that systematic repetition, target-oriented practice, and immediate corrective feedback can improve semi-smash accuracy. Nevertheless, the absence of a control group and the small sample require cautious generalization.
