Abstract

Instilling character values in elementary school students is an important aspect in shaping their personality. Teachers have a strategic role in integrating character education through the learning process, role models, habituation, and behavioral development in the school environment. This study aims to analyze the influence of teachers' roles on instilling character values in elementary school students through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The study was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines using the PICOS framework in the article selection process. A literature search was conducted on Google Scholar, Scopus, ERIC, ScienceDirect, and Crossref databases for articles published in the 2020–2026 period. From the selection process, 40 articles that met the inclusion criteria were obtained and analyzed using descriptive quantitative synthesis techniques. The results of the study indicate that teachers play a significant role as role models, mentors, motivators, facilitators, and evaluators in instilling character values in students. The character values that are most often developed include discipline, responsibility, honesty, religiosity, cooperation, caring, and independence. The successful implementation of character education is influenced by teacher role models, school culture, parental support, and the integration of character values into learning. While limited teacher competency, low family involvement, and the influence of digital media are key inhibiting factors. This study confirms that synergy between teachers, schools, families, and the community is a crucial factor in optimizing character education in elementary schools.
