Abstract

Background: Rabies is a fatal disease with distinct clinical symptoms. It is classified as a zoonotic disease with a high mortality rate for both humans and animals. The disease causes central nervous system infection following direct contact between a wound or mucous membrane and the saliva or scratches of an infected animal; it can lead to death if not treated immediately. Proper knowledge and first aid skills are essential to prevent complications associated with rabies. Objective: To identify the characteristics, knowledge levels, and skills of students at SMA Negeri 1 Sokaraja regarding first aid for animal bite wounds carrying a risk of rabies.
