Abstract

The cultivation of religious character and discipline is important in vocational high school (SMK) education, particularly in preparing students to meet behavioral demands in professional environments. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Dhuha prayer habit-forming program and the development of students’ religious character and discipline at SMK Assa’adah Bungah Gresik. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving seven informants, consisting of the principal, vice principal for student affairs, Islamic Education teacher, guidance and counseling teacher, and three eleventh-grade students. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was examined through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicate that the Dhuha prayer habit-forming program is implemented routinely through scheduled activities, educator involvement, and supervision. Religious character is reflected in students’ understanding of religious values, affective experiences during worship, and social behavior, including the habit of greeting and shaking hands after the religious activity. Discipline is supported by time management, school regulations, supervision, and the implementation of sanctions. However, compliance with time requirements is also influenced by parental involvement. These findings indicate that the Dhuha prayer habit-forming program constitutes one of the contextual supports for fostering students’ religious character and discipline within the school environment.
