Abstract

This paper examines the concept of amor fati through the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and its implications for mental health. Moving beyond passive acceptance, Nietzsche’s formulation demands a radical affirmation of life, including suffering, failure, and uncertainty. The study explores how this perspective reframes psychological distress as a necessary condition for growth and self-overcoming. By rejecting resentment and embracing adversity as meaningful, amor fati offers a framework for cultivating resilience and personal agency. The paper also engages with Nietzsche’s idea of eternal recurrence, highlighting its role in encouraging individuals to evaluate and affirm their lives argumentatively. In conclusion, while acknowledging the challenges of adopting such a demanding outlook, this analysis argues that amor fati provides a powerful philosophical lens for transforming suffering into strength, contributing to contemporary discussions on meaning-making, emotional endurance, and long-term psychological well-being.
