Abstract

Adolescence is an important period in the development of human resources for the future. Healthy adolescents with adequate nutrition knowledge and healthy eating behaviors are an essential foundation for creating a healthy, productive, and competitive generation. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge of balanced nutrition at SMA Negeri 1 Sukorejo, Kendal Regency, through an educational program with the theme “Healthy Adolescents, Excellent Generation.” The activity was conducted on September 19, 2024, and involved 257 twelfth-grade students, of whom 120 completed both the pre-test and post-test. The education was delivered through lectures, discussions, and games, covering balanced nutrition for adolescents and tips for maintaining fitness to support academic performance. Knowledge was assessed using a 20-item questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks Test. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 65.12 before the education to 85.79 after the education, representing an increase of 20.67 points. The proportion of students with good knowledge increased from 10.0% to 72.5%. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference in knowledge scores before and after the education (Z = −9.315; p < 0.001). Balanced nutrition education through a combination of lectures, discussions, and games can improve students’ knowledge. Balanced nutrition education for adolescents can serve as an important effort to promote healthy behaviors as a foundation for developing a healthy, productive, and competitive generation.
