Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study aimed to analyze students’ and teacher’s experiences and perspectives in formative English assessment using Wayground at SMP Islam Terampil Nurul Mujahidin NW Pancor Kopong. The population was 25 eight-grade students, with four students and one English teacher selected as the sample through purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observation, documentation, and semi-structured interviews, and were analyzed using data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results showed that both students and teacher had positive experiences and perspectives regarding the implementation of Wayground. The platform enabled the assessment environment to be more engaging and interactive, encouraged active participation from students, allowed the teacher to provide immediate feedback, and provided it easier to monitor students’ progress. However, several challenges were recognized, including students’ initial unfamiliarity with Paper Mode, limited response time, and technological constraints. In conclusion, Wayground provided effective support for the implementation of formative English assessment by connecting students’ responses, immediate feedback, and ongoing classroom learning.
