Abstract

Abstract. As urbanization accelerates in Indonesia, access to affordable, inclusive, and culturally relevant childcare remains a persistent challenge for urban families, particularly among working-class and marginalized communities. This study investigates Rumah Anak, a community-led childcare initiative in an urban neighborhood of Indonesia, to understand how grassroots caregiving models foster social cohesion, reciprocal care, and resilience amidst institutional fragmentation and resource scarcity. Using a qualitative case study approach that includes semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, the research identifies three interrelated dynamics: trust-building and social bonding, reciprocal caregiving as a local ethic, and grassroots navigation of institutional ambiguity. The findings illustrate that Rumah Anak functions not merely as a substitute for formal daycare, but as a form of relational social infrastructure that strengthens community ties, supports maternal employment, and enhances child development. The study concludes that community-based childcare systems, when adequately supported, hold transformative potential for inclusive urban development and call for policy frameworks that center care as a shared civic responsibility.

Abstract

Abstract. This research examines changes in behavior of mikrotrans users after the implementation of the Jak Lingko system in South Jakarta. Mikrotrans is the term for small-scale public transportation used in the DKI Jakarta area. Previously known as microbuses or city public transportation (angkot) which used a regular system by implementing a deposit system to the owner. However, now it has been transformed by implementing an integrated transportation system or the Jak Lingko system. This research uses a qualitative case study research approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, documentation and literature study. The theory used is rational choice theory by James S. Coleman. The findings and analysis obtained show that changes in behavior made by mikrotrans users, both drivers and passengers, are influenced by considerations of rational choices to obtain maximum quality public transportation services and improve their personal quality. The decision to change behavior is made based on various considerations, namely improving facilities and service quality, implementing education and outreach to the community, implementing rules and sanctions, and strict supervisory control from various parties. The form of rationalization for mikrotrans users in this case is to obtain profits and benefits from all the advantages and advantages offered by the implementation of the Jak Lingko system. These benefits include convenience, security, comfort and safety when using public transportation. The form of change in social behavior of mikrotrans users in South Jakarta is known to be more orderly, obeying the rules, disciplined, orderly, friendly, responsive, helping each other and respecting each other among users. Keywords: Jak Lingko, Integration System, Behavior Change, Rational Choice.

Abstract

Female circumcision has been widely studied in terms of the causal factors, the motivation of parents to choose female circumcision for medical or non-medical personnel, community knowledge about female circumcision, the relationship between female circumcision and human rights, and the impact of female circumcision on health. But this research focuses on how female circumcision is reproduced and transmitted to society. This study aims to examine how habitus influences agents in Sumenep Regency, Madura so that local agents carry out the reproduction and transmission of female circumcision. A qualitative approach method with the type of case study research is used to extract the data. The theory used in this research is habitus, field (arena), and reproduction of Bourdieu’s social practice. This study found that the social practice of female circumcision is a habit that has been going on for hundreds of years. So it has been internalized in society. Reproduction and transmission of the practice of female circumcision are carried out by various actors from different arenas/fields, both in education, health, and religious institutions. In addition, non-medical personnel such as traditional healers and nyai (calls for women older than the person calling) are also local agents who perform female circumcision reproduction.

Abstract

Halal consumption has emerged as a central mode of identity performance among Jakarta’s urban millennial Muslims, intertwining religious obligation with consumer culture. This study examines how young Muslims navigate their religious identity, ethical values, and digital presence through the everyday practices of halal consumption. Moving beyond theological and market-centered frameworks, the research employs a qualitative design combining semi-structured interviews and digital ethnography to examine how halal is performed, curated, and contested in daily life. The findings show that halal is not merely a set of dietary or consumer rules but a performative and relational identity articulated through four key dynamics: the curation of the “Halal Self” on social media; the deployment of halal as moral distinction and cultural resistance; the negotiation of structural constraints on religious agency; and the formation of a Digital Ummah as a space for soft advocacy and peer-based religious knowledge. The study argues that halal consumption represents a multifaceted ethical practice, embedded in the complex interpit’apakalay of affective, technological, and sociopolitical aspects of contemporary Muslim life.
