Abstract

Adolescents continue to experience various nutritional problems, one of which is the increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity. The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) reported that the prevalence of overweight and obesity among Indonesian adolescents aged 16–18 years was 8.8% and 3.3%, respectively. In Central Java, fruit and vegetable consumption among adolescents aged 15–19 years remained limited, with 68.1% consuming only 1–2 servings per day. This study was conducted at SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. The study aimed to examine the association between fruit and vegetable consumption and nutritional status among adolescents using an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 76 students were selected through purposive sampling. Fruit and vegetable consumption was assessed using an FFQ, nutritional status was determined based on BMI-for-age (BMI/A), and data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The proportions of infrequent and frequent consumption were both 50.0%, while 73.7% of students had normal nutritional status and 26.3% had abnormal nutritional status. The p-value of 0.602 indicated no significant association between fruit and vegetable consumption and nutritional status. Nutritional status may be influenced by various factors, including dietary adequacy, eating patterns, physical activity, genetic factors, and the social environment.
