Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the cancers with a high incidence rate among women. Chemotherapy, as the main treatment, can cause Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), which can affect the patient’s quality of life. This study aimed to determine patient characteristics, the incidence of chemotherapy side effects (ADRs), and quality of life, as well as to analyze the influence of chemotherapy side effects (ADRs) on the quality of life of cervical cancer patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital Surakarta. This was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 66 patients selected through total sampling. ADR incidence was assessed using the Naranjo Algorithm, severity was graded according to the CTCAE criteria, and quality of life was measured with the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods. The majority of patients were aged 41–60 years, had an elementary school education, were housewives, were married, were in stage III, underwent paclitaxel-carboplatin combination chemotherapy, and most experienced ADRs categorized as "probable." A total of 71.2% of patients had a moderate quality of life. Pearson Chi-square test results showed no significant effect of chemotherapy ADRs on the quality of life in cervical cancer patients (p=0.327). Chemotherapy side effects (ADRs) did not significantly impact the quality of life of cervical cancer patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital Surakarta. The patient's quality of life can be influenced by factors beyond the variables studied, such as family and social support, level of spirituality, Subjective Well-Being (SWB), psychological conditions, levels of anxiety or depression, and economic status.
