Abstract

This study was performed to develop an Arabic proficiency assessment model using computerized adaptive testing (CAT) based on the ACTFL standard in an Islamic higher education context. The study also mapped the ACTFL indicators into test items, developed a tiered item bank, conducted expert validation, and conducted a limited field trial. The results showed that the adaptive test model can generate individual test paths based on responses, adjust item difficulty progressively, and classify learners into ACTFL proficiency levels. Expert validation confirmed construct suitability and adaptive structure feasibility, while the trial indicates the adaptive mechanism and analytic outputs functioned as intended. The model contributes to technology-based Arabic assessment by combining proficiency standards and adaptive measurement in one interpretative framework, and supports more accurate level placement and competency mapping.
