Abstract

This study aimed to determine the significance of the relationship between metacognitive strategies and students' listening comprehension skills. This research employed a quantitative correlational design. The samples consisted of 12 seventh-semester students selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected using a metacognitive strategy questionnaire and a listening comprehension test adopted from the TOEFL examination. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation technique with the SPSS v19 statistical program. The results of the analysis revealed that the sig. (2-tailed) The value was 0.944, which is greater than the significance level of 0.05, indicating no statistically significant correlation between the two variables. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient (r = 0.113) indicated a very weak relationship between metacognitive strategy use and listening comprehension. Based on these findings, the null hypothesis (H₀) was accepted, and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was rejected. These results suggest that the use of metacognitive strategies alone may not directly influence students' listening comprehension performance in this context. The findings imply that other factors—such as linguistic competence, vocabulary mastery, or the quality of listening instruction—may play a more dominant role. Therefore, it is recommended that future research involve a larger sample size and include additional variables to understand better the complex factors affecting listening comprehension.

Abstract

The students of SMA N 2 Tolitoli had problem when they writing English, especially in writing using simple present tense. This research aimed to identify the students’ errors and to know the cause of students’ errors in using simple present tense in writing descriptive text made by the eleventh grade students of SMA N 2 Tolitoli. This used a qualitative research design. The samples were 28 students at class XI which were selected purposively. The data was collected through test writing. Test writing was conducted to know types of errors that students make in writing descriptive text by using simple present tense. After those data were analyzed, it was found the result. The result of this research showed that the most students made errors in misformation with 62 errors on percentage 48.06%, as the highest percentage It was found in students’ writing test that become the greatest errors was in using personal verb, in using auxiliary be and then in using pronoun. Omission was in second rank with 39 errors on percentage 30.23%.  Which most of students made errors in writing auxiliary be “am, is, are” and punctuation mark. The third was addition with 22 errors on percentage 17.06%. Which the most errors that always the students make was in conjunction and double mark (be). The last was Misordering with 6 errors on percentage 04.65%, which it was only in the phrase. The students always change the position of modifier and head of phrase. There for, based on the finding of the research, the student was still difficult in writing using simple present tense. It ws proven from the students’ error analysis and it answered the research questions of this research and got what become the aimed of this research

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the types of questions used by English teachers. The study was carried out in SMK Muhammadiyah Toli Toli. A qualitative descriptive design was employed to conduct this research. One English teacher who teaches in SMK Muhammadiyah Toli-Toli became the subject of this study. Observation and interview were the instruments used by the researcher to collect the data, which were then analyzed qualitatively. The researcher took the data in two meetings. After collecting the data, the data were analyzed based on Miles and Huberman, which consisted of three techniques: data reduction, data display, and conclusion. This study showed that, based on Richard and Lockhart's theory, the types of questions used by the English teacher include procedural questions (15 data) and convergent questions (14 data). The teacher frequently used procedural questions in a classroom. However, the researcher did not find that the teacher used different questions.

Abstract

Global warming is a critical issue currently faced worldwide, primarily driven by the increase in greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the combustion of fossil fuels due to human activities. Mangrove ecosystems play a vital role in mitigating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide. Alas Purwo National Park is one of the habitats with a promising ecosystem for carbon sequestration. This study aims to examine the carbon sequestration potential and the environmental service value of mangrove trees in Alas Purwo National Park. A non-destructive, non-harvesting method was employed, with data collected using the quadrant transect method that spanned from the back zone to the front zone of the mangrove area. Five plots measuring 20 x 20 meters were established at each sampling station. Carbon analysis was conducted using an allometric equation approach to estimate the aboveground biomass (AGB). The results showed that the total mangrove carbon stock in Alas Purwo National Park, specifically aboveground carbon, amounted to 4.604,373 tons per hectare. The total value of the environmental services provided was estimated at IDR 1,128,232.11. Sonneratia alba contributed the highest carbon stock, reaching 367.806 per individual, while Ceriops tagal contributed the lowest, at only 6.172. Based on these findings, there is a need for continued conservation efforts of the mangrove ecosystem, enhancement of carbon sequestration potential, and strengthened climate change mitigation strategies.

Abstract

Alas Purwo National Park in Banyuwangi is one of the conservation areas of mangrove forest potential big enough one of them is the Teluk Pangpang Blok Jati Papak which is the intertidal area, a lot of marine life that live in the region one of which is the bivalves. This study aims to determine diversity and the distribution pattern of bivalves in the Teluk Pangpang Blok Jati Papak. This study was conducted in 25 Mei - June 1, 2016. Determination of the sampling method used in this research is purposive sampling. Sampling sites are divided into three stations, with the distance between stations is 500 m, in each station there are four transects on each transect contained 10 plot. set the distance between transects 15 m and the distance between the plots 5 m with a plot measuring 2 × 2m. Measurement parameters abiotic do is measure temperature, salinity and pH. The research found 8 species of bivalves that Anomalodiscus squamosus, Placamen chlorotica, Pitar citrus, Chamelea gillina, Mactra grandis, Hiatula chinensis, Tellina timorensis, Anadara granosa. An index value of diversity bivalves in the Teluk Pangpang Blok Jati Papak categorized as low, with the highest index value at station 1 at 0.766 and the lowest at station 2 by 0.66. Biavalvia distribution patterns in the region are random in species Anomalodiscus squamosus, Pitar citrus, Chamelea gillina, Mactra grandis, Hiatula chinensis, Tellina timorensis, Anadara granosa and are clustered in Placamen chlorotica species.
