Abstract

Conventional shoe drying methods still rely on weather conditions, making them less effective especially during the rainy season or in environments with high humidity. Additionally, the use of commercial shoe dryers requires a payment system that is practical and easy to operate. This literature review aims to analyze the implementation of a coin acceptor as a payment system in a microcontroller-based shoe dryer rack prototype. The method used is a narrative literature review, involving the collection and analysis of various scientific articles, journals, and conference proceedings published between 2021 and 2025 via Google Scholar. The analysis was conducted descriptively by examining the operating principles of coin acceptors, microcontroller based shoe dryer technology, and the potential for integrating these two systems. The results indicate that coin acceptors have a high level of accuracy in detecting coins and can be integrated with microcontrollers to automatically regulate service duration. Meanwhile, a microcontroller-based shoe-drying system that utilizes a heater, fan, and temperature-humidity sensors has proven capable of improving the effectiveness of the drying process. The integration of these two technologies has the potential to produce a self-service shoe drying system that is practical, efficient, and easy to use. Thus, a coin acceptor could serve as an alternative payment system that supports the development of microcontroller based shoe drying racks.
