Abstract

Digital transformation has driven the integration of immersive technologies into early childhood education. However, Virtual Reality (VR) implementation has primarily focused on enhancing cognitive aspects and digital literacy, while the development of cultural awareness and sustainability learning has received limited attention. This study aims to develop an educational technology design termed "Grandwisata Educulture Virtual Reality" (GE-VR) to foster cultural awareness and sustainability learning among young children. The study employs a Design and Development Research approach comprising three stages: analysis, design and development, and validation. The research resulted in the GE-VR educational technology design, which incorporates Input–Process–Output components, five instructional stages (Orientation, Exploration, Interaction, Reflection, and Action), and four dimensions of cultural awareness: cultural recognition, cultural appreciation, cultural engagement, and cultural respect. This model integrates virtual educational tourism, local culture, and sustainability learning into a learning experience that is immersive, contextual, and child-centered. Theoretically, GE-VR expands the field of educational technology by positioning VR as an integral part of systematic instructional design; practically, it provides an innovative framework for early childhood educators to integrate immersive technology focused on cultural preservation and sustainable development.

Abstract

Sundanese language instruction in elementary schools continually faces challenges regarding the scarcity of interactive digital instructional media and the limited integration of indigenous local wisdom. This community service initiative aimed to enhance the professional and pedagogical competencies of elementary school teachers in Tasikmalaya City through the utilization of the learningsundanese.com platform and the Android-based MABS (Materi Ajar Basa Sunda) application. The program was executed through five participatory phases comprising socialization, intensive training, technological implementation, technical mentoring, and outcome evaluation. The intervention engaged 80 participants consisting of 60 elementary school teachers, 10 representatives of the Elementary School Principals Working Group (K3S), 5 school supervisors, and 5 officials from the Tasikmalaya City Education Office. Evaluation findings revealed that 88.33% of teachers (53 participants) achieved the highly competent category in navigating digital platforms, 85.00% (51 participants) successfully developed contextualized digital teaching materials based on local culture, and overall workshop satisfaction reached 89.50%. The participants' active engagement highlighted the effectiveness of technological adaptation in transforming local language learning into an interactive process. This tripartite collaboration successfully demonstrates that indigenous language preservation can be effectively accelerated through contextual and responsive digital learning innovations. ABSTRAK Pembelajaran bahasa Sunda di tingkat sekolah dasar masih dihadapkan pada keterbatasan materi ajar digital dan rendahnya integrasi muatan kearifan lokal.
