Abstract

This study examines the internalization of Islamic educational values through Hajj and Umrah and its implications for pilgrims' spiritual and social transformation in Asahan Regency. A qualitative case study with a phenomenological perspective was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving pilgrims, pilgrimage instructors, religious leaders, and administrators of Hajj Guidance Groups. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings indicate that Hajj and Umrah effectively foster the internalization of sincerity, patience, discipline, piety, ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood), and social responsibility. Successful value internalization is influenced by pilgrims' understanding of the educational meanings of pilgrimage rituals, spiritual motivation, the quality of pilgrimage guidance, family support, and religious community engagement. Conversely, limited post-pilgrimage mentoring, social pressures, and occupational demands hinder the sustainability of value implementation. The study highlights the importance of continuous post-pilgrimage guidance to strengthen character development and sustain Islamic educational values in community life.
