Abstract

Moderate attitudes are important for maintaining diversity and social harmony in Indonesia’s multicultural society. However, History of Islamic Culture (SKI) instruction, particularly on Walisongo history, remains largely focused on factual knowledge and has not adequately integrated moderation values into students’ everyday lives. This study aims to develop a preliminary design of a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) module on Walisongo history to strengthen moderate attitudes among Madrasah Aliyah students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, limited to the Analysis and Design stages. The analysis involved interviews, teaching-module analysis, a review of the Merdeka Curriculum, teacher and student needs questionnaires, and a literature review. The findings indicate that SKI instruction at MAN Purworejo requires greater integration of project-based activities, meaningful learning contexts, and moderation values. The Design stage produced Prototype 1, a PjBL module comprising learning objectives, project stages contextualized to Walisongo history, collaborative activities, and assessment instruments for both project performance and moderate attitudes. The proposed design has the potential to facilitate more active, contextual, collaborative, and meaningful SKI learning. Validation, implementation, and effectiveness testing were not conducted and remain subjects for subsequent research.
