Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the safety factors of the existing slope and a proposed cantilever retaining wall by comparing manual calculations using the Fellenius and Coulomb methods with GEO5 analysis. Secondary data included Standard Penetration Test (SPT) results and laboratory soil test data from two boreholes. The analysis comprised slope stability assessment, back analysis to calibrate soil parameters, lateral earth pressure estimation, and retaining wall stability evaluation against overturning, sliding, and bearing capacity failure. Manual calculations produced slope safety factors of 1.53–2.26, whereas back analysis using GEO5 reduced the values to 0.91–1.23, indicating unstable conditions. The proposed cantilever retaining wall satisfied all stability requirements, with overturning safety factors of 10.70 and 7.12, sliding safety factors of 2.87 and 2.26, and bearing capacity safety factors of 3.12–3.30 and 3.21 from manual and GEO5 analyses, respectively. The proposed retaining wall is structurally safe, and GEO5 provides more conservative safety factor estimates than manual calculations.   Keywords: Fellenius, GEO5, Retaining Wall, Slope Stability
