Abstract

The Balai Kaliki Traditional Village has a local commodity, namely the kaliki fruit, which is considered a legacy from its ancestors. However, its utilization is currently not optimal, and much of the harvest often goes to waste. This community service program aims to optimize the use of kaliki fruit by developing downstream products with economic value. The method applied is the Community-Based Research (CBR) approach, consisting of four stages: laying the foundation, planning, information gathering/analysis, and acting on findings, with an emphasis on active community participation. The activity plan includes mapping community knowledge and awareness, conducting socialization and training on kaliki fruit processing, and establishing local leaders and business groups. Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) were conducted to identify problems, explore aspirations, and collectively design alternative solutions in line with community needs. Problem-solving was carried out through the “tree of hope” framework, which involved socialization programs, practical processing activities, leader identification, and the formation of business groups. The results show that downstreaming kaliki fruit can serve as a new source of income, strengthen cultural identity, and support tourism development in Balai Kaliki Traditional Village. The implications of this program extend beyond improving the local economy, as they also open opportunities for marketing processed products as regional souvenirs, extend the shelf life of kaliki fruit, and encourage the sustainability of the creative business ecosystem in Payakumbuh.
