Abstract

This community service activity aims to provide education and guidance on halal certification to the micro and small enterprises (MSEs) of UD. Kauman Jaya in Kampung Tempe, Surabaya, through the self-declaration pathway of the Free Halal Certification Program (SEHATI). The activity is motivated by the importance of halal certification in improving product quality, consumer trust, and the competitiveness of MSEs in the halal industry. The implementation method was carried out in several stages, namely field surveys, data collection, coordination with business actors, education and assistance on the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH), identification of business readiness, assistance in using the OSS and SIHALAL applications, halal certification registration, and monitoring. The activity was evaluated using a Likert scale feedback instrument administered to 10 respondents. The evaluation results showed that the relevance of the materials to community needs scored 80%, the clarity of the materials scored 80%, the committee’s service scored 90%, and the expectation for the activity’s sustainability scored 70%. This activity also succeeded in improving business operators’ understanding of the halal certification process and resulted in the issuance of a Halal Certificate for the soy milk products of UD. Kauman Jaya. Thus, the mentoring activity was deemed effective in supporting readiness for the implementation of the halal ecosystem as well as improving the quality and competitiveness of MSME products.
