Abstract

Topokeni was a local online courier and ride-hailing service in Palu. In this study, we tried to understand the social media marketing strategies used by Topokeni, as we assumed that Topokeni had specific strategies to compete with national and international scale ride-hailing services such as Grab and Gojek. Thus, this study was focused and aimed to understand and describe the Instagram marketing strategies of Topokeni based on four aspects of social media marketing in a qualitative-case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document study on social media and other relevant archives. The results showed that social media became an alternative to survive and increase tenants and consumers. In the context aspect, Topokeni admins used nicknames such as kakak (bro/sis) to their customers to reach broader targets. In the communication aspect, Topokeni used graphic elements in photos, videos, infographics, and testimonials posts. In the collaboration aspect, Topokeni merged the tenant’s market with Topokeni’s customers. In the connectivity aspect, Topokeni synergized the contents, themes, and brand positioning using #kurirpalu and #deliverypalu, also @(mention) feature on partner tenant accounts and personal customers as a form of appreciation and responsibility.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of the Turkish government in news published on Hürriyet.com during May 2024, following the Gaza events of 7 October 2023. Using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, the research examines text (micro), discursive practice (meso), and social practice (macro) dimensions. At the micro level, the study identifies the use of formal diplomatic terms like güven mektubu (letter of credentials) and büyükelçi (ambassador), as well as emotionally charged diction and complex sentence structures that blend formality with criticism of Israeli policies. At the meso level, the online platform facilitates broad information dissemination to shape public opinion and bolster Turkish diplomacy under Erdoğan’s leadership. At the macro level, the coverage reveals a bias favoring Palestine and critiquing Israel, reflecting Türkiye’s political stance. The findings highlight Hürriyet.com's role in portraying Türkiye as a supporter of human rights and international justice, reinforcing its positive image domestically and globally.

Abstract

Along with the change in the learning paradigm, the success of teaching and learning activities in higher education is not only determined by the factor of the lecturer, but is strongly influenced by the activity of students. Through the internet, students can access various literatures and scientific references that are needed quickly, so as to facilitate the study process. The problem of this research is how to use the internet by students of Fisip Untad Communications class of 2015, and what factors support students of Fisip Untad Communications to use the internet as a medium. This research uses qualitative research with a case study approach. There were four informants in this study. Data collection techniques are observation and interviews. The results showed that some Untad Communication students were familiar with and used the internet as a medium. Each student has a different way of using the internet such as where to access, how long to access the internet, and also the sites accessed by students. The places to access the internet that are often used by students are in internet cafes, at home, and in the environment around campus. Untad Fisip Communications students use the internet as a medium, because the internet can make it easier to find information and course assignments. Factors supporting the use of the internet as a student medium include demands from lecturers to fulfill course assignments, more complete learning resources on the internet, assisting in obtaining course references, making it easier to do assignments, the information available is clearer and more valid, faster in information search, more complete sources of knowledge, hotspots on campus, up to date/new news, lower costs, easy access, curiosity and needs.

Abstract

This article examines the dynamics of intercultural marriage in the Bani Alawiyyin community in Palu City, which involves gender stereotypes, cultural identity, and social norms. This study aims to describe in detail the influence of gender stereotypes on perceptions and expectations in marriage between Syarifah women and non-Sayyid men in Palu City. The method used is qualitative research with a case study approach aimed at examining the natural conditions of the research object. The snowball sampling technique was applied to determine the research object, resulting in 8 informants of two Ulama and three married couples. The findings suggest that Syarifah and non-Sayyid couples are under pressure to maintain their family identity. Isolation from the family, especially the Syarifah from the family of origin, creates social pressure. At the same time, the Arab Hadramaut cultural identity is still maintained in the family even though the couple practices mixed marriages. Differences in views regarding marriage between Syarifah women and non-Sayyid men give rise to tension and conflict in interpersonal and social relations among Arab Hadramaut in Palu City. However, cultural assimilation and social changes influence perceptions and attitudes toward intercultural marriage.
