Abstract

Adolescents are a group experiencing rapid growth with increasing nutritional needs. Unhealthy and irregular eating patterns, sedentary behavior, and low levels of physical activity can affect nutritional status and reduce physical fitness, which is crucial for supporting health, learning ability, and daily activities. This study aims to determine the relationship between nutritional status and physical fitness levels among adolescents at Batik 1 High School in Surakarta. The research method employed an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 91 students selected using simple random sampling. Nutritional status was measured based on the Age-Adjusted Body Mass Index (BMI/A), while physical fitness was assessed using the Harvard Step-Up Test and calculated based on the Physical Fitness Index (PFI). The association was tested using Fisher’s Exact Test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that most respondents had normal nutritional status, totaling 75 students (84.2%), while the highest proportion of physical fitness levels fell into the “very poor” category, totaling 69 students (75.8%). The results of Fisher’s Exact Test showed a p-value of 1.000 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant association between nutritional status and physical fitness level. This suggests that other factors likely play a greater role in influencing physical fitness than nutritional status.
