Abstract

This study was motivated by students' low understanding of effective sentences in Indonesian language learning due to the use of learning media that are still less engaging and tend to be conventional. This study aimed to develop flipbook-based digital comic media on the topic of effective sentences in Indonesian language learning for Grade IV elementary school students that are valid, practical, and effective for use in the learning process. This study employed the ADDIE development model. The subjects of this study were Grade IV elementary school students. The instruments used included subject matter expert validation sheets, media expert validation sheets, instructional design expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and students' learning outcome tests. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed that the flipbook-based digital comic media were categorized as very feasible based on the expert validation results. The responses from teachers and students indicated that the developed media were practical, engaging, and easy to use in the learning process. In addition, the effectiveness test results showed an improvement in students' learning outcomes. The hypothesis testing results indicated that the learning media were effective in improving students' learning outcomes on the topic of effective sentences. It can be concluded that flipbook-based digital comic media can be used as an alternative innovative learning medium. The implication of this study is that teachers can utilize flipbook-based digital comic media as an innovation in Indonesian language learning that is appropriate to the characteristics of elementary school students and the development of educational technology in the digital era.
