Abstract

Abstract

The low level of literacy among elementary school students, particularly in listening skills, remains a significant challenge in education. Conventional text-based learning tends to be less engaging and has not adequately addressed students’ learning needs. Therefore, there is a need for technology-based learning media that not only enhances student engagement but also integrates local cultural values. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of trilingual animated videos based on Balinese animal fables in improving elementary students’ listening skills. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 47 students. Data were collected through listening tests, observations, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and paired sample t-test according to the data characteristics. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ listening skills after the implementation of the trilingual animated video compared to conventional learning methods. In addition, students demonstrated increased motivation, participation, and engagement during the learning process. These findings indicate that the integration of digital technology and local wisdom through trilingual animated media can create more contextual and meaningful learning experiences. The implications of this study suggest that culturally based and multilingual learning media can serve as an innovative alternative to enhance language literacy while supporting character development and the preservation of local cultural values from an early age.

Abstract

This study was motivated by students' low understanding of effective sentences in Indonesian language learning due to the use of learning media that are still less engaging and tend to be conventional. This study aimed to develop flipbook-based digital comic media on the topic of effective sentences in Indonesian language learning for Grade IV elementary school students that are valid, practical, and effective for use in the learning process. This study employed the ADDIE development model. The subjects of this study were Grade IV elementary school students. The instruments used included subject matter expert validation sheets, media expert validation sheets, instructional design expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and students' learning outcome tests. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed that the flipbook-based digital comic media were categorized as very feasible based on the expert validation results. The responses from teachers and students indicated that the developed media were practical, engaging, and easy to use in the learning process. In addition, the effectiveness test results showed an improvement in students' learning outcomes. The hypothesis testing results indicated that the learning media were effective in improving students' learning outcomes on the topic of effective sentences. It can be concluded that flipbook-based digital comic media can be used as an alternative innovative learning medium. The implication of this study is that teachers can utilize flipbook-based digital comic media as an innovation in Indonesian language learning that is appropriate to the characteristics of elementary school students and the development of educational technology in the digital era.

Abstract

Learning practices remain largely focused on memorization and lower-level comprehension, limiting students' ability to analyze, evaluate, and construct ideas critically. This study aimed to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the scientific approach in enhancing elementary school students' literacy skills and HOTS. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The research participants consisted of two fourth-grade classes in an elementary school, comprising 26 students in the experimental group and 26 students in the control group. Data were collected through literacy tests, HOTS tests, and teacher observation sheets. The research instruments were designed to assess students' abilities to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and respond to texts, as well as their abilities to analyze, evaluate, and generate ideas based on the learning materials. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), and N-Gain analysis. The findings revealed that the scientific approach was more effective than conventional instruction in improving students' literacy skills and HOTS. The experimental group also demonstrated better learning improvement than the control group. The study concludes that the scientific approach effectively promotes the integrated development of literacy skills and higher-order thinking skills through active, critical, and reflective learning processes. The findings imply the importance of implementing the scientific approach as a pedagogical foundation for creating meaningful Indonesian language learning that supports the development of twenty-first-century competencies.

Abstract

Students' low language skills, particularly in speaking and writing, remain a problem affecting the quality of Indonesian language learning in elementary schools. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving students' language skills in Indonesian language learning. This study employed a quantitative approach using classroom action research based on the Kemmis and McTaggart design. The research subjects consisted of 23 students, including 12 male students and 11 female students. The data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation using observation sheets, language skills tests, and learning documentation as the research instruments. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis by calculating the mean scores and the percentage of learning mastery to evaluate the achievement of the success indicators in each cycle. The findings showed that the implementation of the PjBL model consistently improved students' language skills in the aspects of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while also enhancing students' participation, collaboration, and active engagement throughout the learning process. It can be concluded that the PjBL model is effective in improving students' language skills through project-oriented learning and meaningful learning experiences. The findings of this study imply that the PjBL model can be implemented as an alternative innovative learning approach to improve the quality of Indonesian language learning and to continuously develop students' language skills in elementary schools.
