Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a public health problem influenced by physical environmental conditions and community behaviors. This study examined the association between physical environmental factors, community behaviors, and DHF incidence in the service area of Padang Bulan Selayang I Community Health Center. A case-control design was used with 154 respondents, comprising 77 cases and 77 controls. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test. The results showed associations between lighting (p=0.000; OR=4.938), room temperature (p=0.003; OR=2.777), room humidity (p=0.000; OR=3.300), mosquito larvae presence (p=0.014; OR=2.249), mosquito repellent use (p=0.024; OR=2.093), hanging clothes (p=0.017; OR=2.289), wire mesh installation on vents (p=0.023; OR=2.100), and water storage container cleaning (p=0.006; OR=2.496) with DHF incidence. Housing density (p=0.329; OR=0.727) and mosquito net use (p=0.632; OR=0.794) were not associated with DHF. Most physical environmental and behavioral factors were associated with DHF incidence. Community health centers should strengthen health promotion, mosquito breeding site elimination, and regular larval monitoring. Communities should maintain suitable lighting, temperature, and humidity, prevent larval breeding, use mosquito repellent and mosquito nets, avoid hanging clothes indoors, install wire screens on vents, and regularly clean water storage containers.
