Abstract

Background: Thalassemia is a blood disease characterized by the most frequently found autosomal recessive hereditary hemolytic anemia. It requires repeated blood transfusions for life. Routine blood transfusion can cause complications in the form of accumulation of ferritin in the tissue. Iron chelation therapy is considered effective for treating body iron deposits. However, iron chelation therapy has the side effect of decreasing levels of other important minerals such as zinc (Zn). This study aimed to examine plasma zinc difference in children with Thalassemia β major received deferiprone or deferasirox zinc.Subjects and Method: This was a cross sectional study conducted at Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta, from February to April 2017. A sample of 40 children with thalassemia β major aged 3 to 18 years who received deferiprone iron chelation and deferasirox at least 6 months was selected by consecutive sampling. The dependent variable was serum zinc levels. The independent variables were iron deferiprone and deferasirox. Plasma zinc levels were measured by atomic absorption spectroscope. The data were analyzed by t test. Results: Zinc levels in patients with deferiprone therapy (Mean= 54.50; SD= 11.02) were lower than deferasirox therapy (Mean= 60.95; SD= 20.71), but statistically not significant (p= 0.229).Conclusion:Zinc levels in patients with deferiprone therapy are lower than deferasirox therapy, but not statistically significant. Keywords: zinc, deferiprone, deferasirox, children with thalassemia β majorCorrespondence: Wahyu Kusumawardhani. Abstract

Background: Writing prescriptions accurately and rationally is a competency that must be achieved by medical students during medical education. This capability includes detailed knowledge of the components of the recipe and details of the components of the drug. This study aims to determine the description of the prescription writing practicum learning method carried out in the Pharmacology section of Faculty of Medicine in Unissula.Subjects and Method: This research is a descriptive study by looking at the prettest and posttest values. It was conducted in March 2020. The subjects of this study were 159 students who were registered participants of the psychiatry module in semester 6 in the undergraduate medical education study program at Faculty of Medicine in Unissula. 159 students were randomly divided into 20 SGD (Small Group Discussion), batch 1 SGD 1-10 and SGD 11-20 in batch 2. Each batch carried out practicum for 100 minutes. The activity begins with a pretest / giving case scenarios, then the discussion and discussion session ends with a posttest. The data in this study are numerical data and analyzed descriptively. Results: The results of the study indicated that the improvement across categories and those assessed was both the detailed component of the recipe and the detail component of the drug. The detail component of the prescription had the highest score increase in the patient name category by 27% higher posttest than pretest. In the detail component of the prescription, there was the highest increase in the category of Sedian Medicine (BSO) by 20.7% and that was a higher posttest value when compared to the pretest value. Conclusion: Clinical-based special learning methods with small class discussions are needed in an effort to improve the ability to write prescriptions appropriately and rationally by adjusting the level of education years. Keywords: prescription, rational, medical studentCorrespondence: Bagas Widiyanto. Abstract

The adoption of information technology into library and information studies has shifted the research of this area into more of quantitative and statistic-driven as well as IT based research. Not that those researches are unnecesarry, but the adoption of Information Technology has diminished the role of library in the cultural context, especially in its research topics. Humanities-based approach on Library and Information Science researches have reduced dramatically in its quantity for decades considering that earlier researches of Library and Information area its in humanities. This research focuses on applying Discourse Analysis especially that of Teun Van Djik’s into Library and information science research. The paper uses qualitative method using descriptive approach. This paper finds that there are saveral topics that can be investigated and analysed by DA namely: 1) Analysing library-based policies (eg. Colection development policy). 2 Analysing certain library policies on library users, and lasty 3) analysing news on library or/and library information studies on mass media.
