Abstract

The Qur'an plays a fundamental role as a source of spiritual development capable of shaping human behavior and consciousness, making its internalization crucial in Islamic education. However, the decline in students' spiritual character due to the influence of modernization demands effective strategies for instilling religious values. One potential strategy is through the habituation of religious activities, such as the routine recitation of Surah Yasin and tahlil. This study aims to analyze the effect of the habituation of reciting Surah Yasin and tahlil on the formation of students' spiritual character at MTs Darussalam Gayau Sakti. This research employs a quantitative approach using field research and an ex post facto design with a correlational approach. The research sample consisted of 17 seventh-grade students selected through a simple random sampling technique. Data collection techniques utilized a Likert scale questionnaire, structured observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression assisted by SPSS, preceded by prerequisite tests including normality and linearity tests. The results showed a positive and significant effect of the habituation of reciting Surah Yasin and tahlil on students' spiritual character, as indicated by a calculated t-value (t count) of 3.910, which is greater than the table t-value (t table) of 2.131, alongside a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05. The regression coefficient of 0.620 indicates a unidirectional relationship, while the correlation coefficient (R) of 0.710 falls into the strong category. The coefficient of determination (R^2) of 0.504 indicates that 50.4% of students' spiritual character is influenced by this habituation. These findings confirm that structured religious habituation plays a vital role in shaping students' spiritual character in a madrasah environment. Practically, the results imply the need to strengthen religious habituation programs in madrasahs, particularly through routine, targeted, and consistent recitations of Surah Yasin and tahlil. Teachers and school administrators can utilize these activities as a strategy for developing students' spiritual character, supported by role modeling and guidance so that religious values are internalized into daily behavior rather than remaining mere routine.
