Abstract

The productivity of productive mustahik in zakat-based economic empowerment programs is not always proportional to the business capital assistance received. This study aims to examine the effect of perceived business capital on the productivity of productive mustahik, both directly and through resilience as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed, involving 120 productive mustahik assisted by BAZNAS Central Java Province, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a perceived business capital scale, a resilience scale, and a productivity scale, and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with a Partial Least Square (PLS) approach via SmartPLS 4.0. The results show that perceived business capital had no significant direct effect on productivity (β = 0.089, p = 0.190), but significantly and positively affected resilience (β = 0.312, p = 0.002). Resilience, in turn, significantly and positively affected productivity (β = 0.363, p = 0.000) and fully mediated the effect of perceived business capital on productivity (β = 0.215, p = 0.001). These findings confirm resilience as a key psychological mechanism bridging the perception of economic resources and business productivity, underscoring the need to integrate resilience-strengthening strategies into zakat-based empowerment programs.
