Abstract

This study aims to understand how self-control and time management affect the level of mobile phone dependence among STIE IBMT students in the Class of 2024. Excessive mobile phone use can lead to decreased ability to focus while studying, decreased academic results, and ineffective time management. Therefore, it is important to understand the role of self-control as a person's ability to control impulses and behavior, as well as time management skills in planning and organizing daily activities effectively, thereby reducing the habit of excessive mobile phone use. This study uses a quantitative approach by conducting a survey. Data were obtained by distributing questionnaires to 99 STIE IBMT students in the Class of 2024 students saturated sampling (census) technique. The research instrument used a Likert scale with four answer options. Data analysis was carried out by testing validity, reliability, classical assumptions, and using multiple linear regression analysis to determine the impact of each variable separately and simultaneously. This study shows that the ability to control oneself has a positive and significant impact on the level of mobile phone dependence. Time management can significantly influence the level of mobile phone addiction. Simultaneously, the ability to control oneself and manage time significantly influences the level of dependence on mobile phones among STIE IBMT students of the Class of 2024. This shows that the better a person's ability to control themselves and manage time, the less likely they are to become addicted to using mobile phones.
