Abstract

This study analyzes the utilization of digital technology in strengthening services and enhancing visitor experience at Museum Lokananta, the first national recording studio in Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative method through observation, interviews, and documentation, this research investigates the existing forms of digital implementation and evaluates their effectiveness for both museum operations and visitor engagement. The findings reveal that Museum Lokananta has begun adopting several digital innovations including partial music archive digitalization, audio-interactive booths, QR-based exhibition information, and initial virtual tour initiatives. These technologies contribute positively to increasing information accessibility and service efficiency; however, their implementation remains limited and has not yet created a fully immersive and interactive experience. Visitor expectations—especially among digital-native audiences—show a demand for more advanced digital features such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), gamification, and personalized audio-visual storytelling. The study concludes that the integration of digital technology must be aligned with strategic curatorship and experience design in order to achieve meaningful engagement and support the transformation of Lokananta into a smart music heritage museum. Recommendations include the development of comprehensive digital archives, AR/VR-based exhibition experiences, and long-term innovation strategies to strengthen Lokananta’s identity as a national center of musical heritage.
