Abstract

Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis face significant changes in their daily lives, both physically and psychosocially. The process of adapting to this long-term therapy is not always easy and, in many cases, is an important factor affecting patients' quality of life. This study aims to examine the relationship between hemodialysis duration and quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The study used a cross-sectional correlational quantitative design involving 89 patients undergoing routine hemodialysis. Data collection was conducted using the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) questionnaire, and the data were analyzed using Spearman's correlation test. The results showed a significant positive relationship between patient adaptation and quality of life. Patients with better adaptation abilities tended to report a higher quality of life. These findings emphasize the important role of nursing in supporting the patient's adaptation process through a holistic, continuous care approach. Efforts to strengthen patient adaptation can improve the well-being and quality of life of individuals with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis

Abstract

Anxiety is a psychological issue that adolescents may experience, and that can potentially affect sleep quality. Suboptimal sleep quality among students can affect their ability to concentrate in class, academic readiness, and physical and psychological health. This study aims to examine the relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality among 11th-grade students at SMAN 1 Ubud. This study employed a quantitative design using a descriptive-correlational approach and a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 11th-grade students at SMAN 1 Ubud, and the sample was selected according to the study criteria. The study variables included anxiety levels as the independent variable and sleep quality as the dependent variable. Data were collected using the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale to measure anxiety levels and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index to measure sleep quality. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis and Spearman's rank correlation test. The study's results indicate that most students have normal anxiety levels and good sleep quality. The main findings indicate a relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality among students. This study concludes that anxiety levels are associated with students' sleep quality; therefore, efforts to detect anxiety early and promote healthy sleep should be prioritized in the context of school health.

Abstract

Hypertension requires sustained management, yet some patients seek complementary approaches that may support conventional care. This study aimed to examine changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure following dry cupping among patients with hypertension. A quantitative pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted at Usada Dawa Clinic, Klungkung Regency, Bali. Twenty-two participants were selected through purposive sampling and received dry cupping for 7–8 minutes per session, twice weekly for two consecutive weeks. Blood pressure was measured before the first session and after the final session using an aneroid sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope. Descriptive statistics summarized participant characteristics and blood pressure values, while paired-samples t tests compared pre-intervention and post-intervention measurements. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were lower after completion of the intervention, and both pre–post differences were statistically significant. These findings provide preliminary evidence that dry cupping may be considered as an adjunctive approach within complementary nursing care when delivered safely and integrated with prescribed medication, lifestyle modification, and routine monitoring. However, the absence of a control group, the small sample, and the single-clinic setting limit causal interpretation and broader generalization. Larger controlled studies are needed to determine whether these changes are sustained and clinically meaningful.

Abstract

Fatigue among patients undergoing hemodialysis is a multifactorial symptom resulting from complex physiological and psychological mechanisms. One important factor associated with fatigue is the patient's level of physical activity. Most individuals undergoing hemodialysis tend to reduce their physical activity because they experience rapid exhaustion, muscle weakness, or fear that physical exertion may worsen their health condition. This study used a quantitative research design, a descriptive correlational approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 44 patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria and participated in the study. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire comprising three sections: physical activity and fatigue. The results show a significant relationship between physical activity and fatigue among patients undergoing hemodialysis. This finding is consistent with the concept of physiological adaptation in patients with chronic kidney disease, whereby regular physical activity helps preserve skeletal muscle function, improve cardiorespiratory capacity, enhance energy metabolism, and mitigate the decline in functional capacity associated with long-term hemodialysis therapy.
