Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of and analyze the factors causing morphological language errors in the descriptive texts written by eighth-grade students at Sinar Pancasila Betun Junior High School. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied with eighth-grade students as the research subjects. Primary data, consisting of students’ written descriptive texts, were analyzed using the Language Error Analysis procedure integrated into the Miles and Huberman model. The findings revealed five dominant categories of morphological errors: (1) omission of affixes, (2) morphological substitution, (3) morphological shortening (spoken variety), (4) incorrect identification of the base form, and (5) incorrect repetition of compound words. These errors were largely caused by linguistic interference (the influence of everyday or regional language) and imperfect application of rules (overgeneralization). The results of this study underscore the urgency of pedagogical interventions focused on mastering standard morphonological rules—particularly the process of verb affixation—to improve students’ writing proficiency.
