Abstract

Islamic values-based education is an educational system that places religious values as the primary foundation for developing students' character, behavior, and identity. In an era of globalization rife with moral and social challenges, education based on Islamic values is a crucial solution for integrating science and morality. This study aims to analyze the concept, implementation, and strategies for strengthening Islamic values-based education in both schools and the community. Using descriptive qualitative methods through literature review, this study highlights the thoughts of various figures such as Al-Ghazali, Ibn Khaldun, Syed Naquib Al-Attas, as well as modern character education theories. The study's findings indicate that Islamic values-based education must be implemented through a comprehensive approach encompassing an integrated curriculum, educator role models, school culture, and community support. Values such as honesty, trustworthiness, discipline, and responsibility are not only taught but also lived out through practical practices in social life. Collaboration across schools, families, and the community is key to successfully developing a generation with morals and broad perspectives.

Abstract

The family is the first educational institution that plays an important role in the formation of children's character. Qur'anic family education emphasizes the instilling of Qur'anic values such as honesty, responsibility, compassion, discipline, and role models as the basis for the formation of Islamic character. This study aims to analyze the influence of Qur'anic family education on the formation of Islamic character of students at Uswatun Hasanah Islamic Elementary School, Jambi City. The study used a quantitative approach with an associative design and a Likert scale questionnaire instrument of 1–5 consisting of 25 items for the Qur'anic family education variable (X) and 25 items for the Islamic character variable (Y). The study population was 101 students in grades 5–6 of Uswatun Hasanah Islamic Elementary School, all of whom were respondents. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and inferentially using normality test, linearity test, and Pearson correlation with the help of SPSS 27. The results of descriptive analysis showed that Qur'anic family education was in the very good category with an average total score of 92.10 (range 39–100) and an index of 91.84%, while Islamic character was also in the very good category with an average total score of 108.52 (range 68–125) and an index of 86.89%. The results of the linearity test showed a significant linear relationship between Qur'anic family education and Islamic character (F linearity = 115.192; p = 0.000; deviation from linearity p = 0.380). Hypothesis testing with Pearson correlation obtained a coefficient of r = 0.730 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.01), so there is a strong and significant positive relationship between Qur'anic family education and students' Islamic character.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning strategies as an effort to shape the religious character of students in Bombana Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, and to reveal the supporting and inhibiting factors, and the relationship between variations in learning strategies and the profile of students' religious character. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design in three educational units selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with PAI teachers, principals, and students, documentation studies, and FGDs, then analyzed through the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions through content and interpretative analysis. The results show that PAI teachers apply various learning strategies, such as role models, habituation of worship, lectures and advice, reflective dialogue, and strengthening the school's religious culture that contribute to the formation of students' religious character. The implementation of these strategies is supported by teacher commitment and school policies, but is hampered by limited learning time, worship facilities, and the influence of the environment and social media. Schools that consistently combine religious practices with teacher role models and a religious school environment tend to have stronger student religious character profiles than schools where learning is dominated by lectures without cultural reinforcement. This finding confirms that the effectiveness of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning strategies is determined not only by the method, but also by the consistency of implementation and support from the educational ecosystem (Majid, 2014; Lickona, 2013). Thus, the quality of implementation is closely related to the religious character profiles of students in Bombana Regency.
