Abstract

Trichomoniasis is a non-viral sexually transmitted infection caused by Trichomonas vaginalis and remains a reproductive health concern among women of reproductive age. Limited public knowledge may hinder prevention and early detection. This study analyzed the effect of a sexual education program on improving PKK mothers' knowledge of trichomoniasis. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was applied. The sample consisted of 32 PKK mothers at RW 01 RT 07 Community Hall, Kejawan, Kamal Village, selected through total sampling. Knowledge was assessed using the same questionnaire before and after education and analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Before education, most respondents had poor knowledge (17 respondents; 53.1%), whereas after education most respondents had good knowledge (29 respondents; 90.6%). The Wilcoxon test yielded p = 0.001, with 18 positive ranks, one negative rank, and 13 ties. The sexual education program significantly improved PKK mothers' knowledge of trichomoniasis. Continuing community-based education is recommended as a reproductive health promotion and sexually transmitted infection prevention strategy.
