Abstract

The implementation of Lean Six Sigma through the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) framework has been widely recognized as effective in improving product quality and process efficiency, yet mapping the frequency of tool usage across each phase remains scarcely addressed. This study aims to identify and analyze the frequency of tool usage in each DMAIC phase within Lean Six Sigma implementation. A systematic literature review method was employed, with searches conducted via Publish or Perish based on Google Scholar data over the past five years, yielding 90 relevant papers for analysis. Findings show the Improve phase recorded the highest frequency (232), followed by Measure (229), Define (221), and Analyze (220), while Control recorded the lowest (198); the high frequency in Improve reflects the complexity of designing solutions and assessing baseline conditions, whereas Control, being more oriented toward sustaining outcomes, relies on more targeted tools. Each phase had its own predominant tools: SIPOC and Project Charter (Define), Control Chart and Pareto Chart (Measure), Fishbone Diagram (Analyze), Standard Work/SOP (Improve), and Control Chart and Standardization (Control). Bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer confirmed Lean and Six Sigma as a unified conceptual framework, with case studies as the dominant research design and Indonesia as the leading contributor.
