Abstract

Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) in toddlers remains a significant public health challenge, with environmental factors in homes playing a crucial role. Poor housing characteristics, such as overcrowding, lack of sunlight, poor air circulation, and high humidity levels, can potentially trigger the onset of ARI. A cross-sectional quantitative study conducted in April 2026 in Rundeng Village, Subulussalam City, involving 93 households with under-five children through total sampling, found based on Chi-Square analysis of interview and observational data that ARI incidence in toddlers was significantly associated with housing density, lighting, ventilation, and humidity, indicating that residential physical conditions contribute to ARI risk. Intervention measures in the form of ventilation renovation, optimizing natural lighting, regulating room density, and reducing humidity are highly recommended to reduce the number of ARI cases.
