Abstract

Menstruation is a natural process that women experience every month with the release of blood through the vaginal canal, often accompanied by dysmenorrhea, especially in young women. Yoga cat stretch exercise is a non-pharmacological method that involves stretching movements to increase blood circulation, relax the uterine muscles, and reduce pain dysmenorrhea. This study aims to evaluate the effects of yoga cat stretch exercises in reducing pain dysmenorrhea among young women at SMA Negeri 2 Mengwi. The method used was pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 71 class X female students at SMA Negeri 2 Mengwi who experienced this dysmenorrhea, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using a pain scale Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Before doing yoga cat stretch exercises, 19 respondents (26.8%) reported mild menstrual pain, while 52 respondents (73.2%) experienced moderate pain. After the intervention, 65 respondents (91.5%) reported mild pain, and 6 respondents (8.5%) experienced moderate pain. The Friedman statistical test shows a p-value < 0.001, which indicates a significant difference in the pain scale dysmenorrhea. The Wilcoxon statistical test also shows a p-value < 0.001, indicating a significant effect of yoga cat stretch exercise towards reducing pain dysmenorrhea in teenage girls. The conclusion of this research is yoga cat stretch exercise has proven to have an effect in reducing the intensity of painful dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls.
