Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder encountered in clinical practice, reducing quality of life and increasing the risk of various health problems. Conventional sedative-hypnotic treatments may cause adverse effects, including dependence and cognitive impairment, highlighting the need for safe and effective alternative therapies. Acupuncture at the PC 6 acupoint (Nei Guan) and wedang pala (nutmeg herbal drink) are complementary therapies with potential synergistic effects for improving sleep quality. This study aimed to analyze the effect of PC 6 acupuncture combined with wedang pala on improving sleep quality among patients with insomnia. This quantitative study employed a pretest–posttest control group design. Thirty patients with insomnia from Klinik Velda, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, were divided into two groups: the PC 6 acupuncture combined with wedang pala group (n = 15) and the PC 6 acupuncture-only group (n = 15). The interventions were administered eight times (twice weekly). Sleep quality was measured using the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality assessment and paired-samples t-tests for hypothesis testing. All data were normally distributed (p > 0.05). The combination therapy group demonstrated a significant reduction in ISI scores from 15.20 ± 4.98 to 7.00 ± 2.72 (t(14) = -17.85; p < 0.001). The acupuncture-only group also showed a significant decrease in ISI scores from 16.20 ± 4.24 to 8.73 ± 2.60 (t(14) = -18.63; p < 0.001). Both groups demonstrated statistically significant improvements in sleep quality (p < 0.001). PC 6 acupuncture, both alone and combined with wedang pala, was associated with reduced ISI scores among patients with moderate insomnia. The combination therapy showed a greater numerical reduction in ISI scores, suggesting a potential complementary benefit between the two interventions. Further studies with larger samples and controlled designs are recommended to confirm these findings.
