Abstract

Background: The rapid advancement of technology has made gadgets a primary necessity for adolescents, yet excessive use is concerning due to its potential negative impact on mental health, particularly stress. In Public Senior High School 1 Kademangan, Blitar Regency, the high intensity of gadget use and academic pressure among grade XII students make this context relevant for further research. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between gadget addiction and stress levels among adolescents at SMA Negeri 1 Kademangan, Blitar Regency. Methods: This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 336 grade XII students selected using total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV) and Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using Spearman's correlation test. Results: The prevalence of gadget addiction was 54.5%, while the prevalence of severe stress reached 79.8%. The statistical analysis using Spearman's correlation test showed no significant relationship between gadget addiction and stress levels, with a Spearman correlation coefficient (r) of 0.087 and a significance value (p) of 0.110 (p > 0.05). The high stress levels are suspected to be more influenced by contextual factors, such as extreme academic pressure in grade XII. Nevertheless, the high rate of gadget addiction still requires serious attention regarding its long-term impact on adolescent well-being Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between gadget addiction and stress levels among adolescents at Public Senior High School 1 Kademangan, Blitar Regency. Health profesionals, especially nurses, are expected to develop holistic contextual approaches through collaboration with schools and families, focusing on academic stress management, social support, and adaptive coping skills to enhance adolescent psychological well-being.Keywords: Gadget Addiction, Stress Levels, Adolescents
