Pre-eclampsia is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality; therefore, promotive and preventative measures are required to improve the knowledge and skills of pregnant women. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of pregnant women through antenatal exercise as a means of preventing pre-eclampsia in the riverside area served by the Karang Intan 2 Community Health Centre. The methods used included health education sessions, demonstrations, antenatal exercise practice, support from midwives and community health workers, and the distribution of leaflets as an educational tool. An evaluation was carried out using pre- and post-tests to measure changes in knowledge and an observation sheet to assess participants’ skills. The activity involved 20 pregnant women, 3 community health workers and 2 midwives. The results showed an increase in the knowledge and skills of pregnant women in performing antenatal exercise following the activity. Participants also demonstrated high enthusiasm and were able to practise the antenatal exercise movements more accurately in accordance with the procedures. The involvement of community health workers and educational materials supported the sustainability of antenatal exercise programmes within the community. This initiative demonstrates that education combined with hands-on practice is an effective strategy for enhancing the capacity of pregnant women as a promotive and preventive measure against pre-eclampsia, and has the potential to be integrated into the routine activities of antenatal classes at primary healthcare facilities.
